Wastewater Treatment Humidity Control
CFW offers a variety of dehumidification solutions tailored to the needs of a particular wastewater treatment facility. We offer a range of cost-effective refrigerant and desiccant dehumidifiers, including efficient and durable units suitable for industrial use. CFW is careful to size solutions according to client needs, and we are experienced in designing and installing systems for a wide variety of industries. Turnkey solutions with project management are also available. Contact us or visit www.dampcontrol.co.za to see the dehumidifiers we have available.
Conditions in sewage plants can make high demands on people and equipment. Moisture condensation on pumps, valves and pipes can damage paint and metal as well as causing electrical component malfunctions. Since wastewater treatment facilities are relatively cool, condensation is particularly problematic in summer months. It often leads to corrosion on the outside of pipes or even structural damage to the building. Hygiene problems can also result, as the moisture encourages the growth of microorganisms and fungus. A relative humidity of 45% or lower is recommended to eliminate sweating / condensation completely.
Refrigeration-type dehumidifiers are a commonly-used, low-cost solution, but desiccant humidifiers are useful where the temperature can drop to below freezing, since it can be a problem for refrigeration coils. Some plants produce gas as a by-product, which can be used for reactivation. In this case, the installation of a heat recovery coil can reclaim a high proportion of the heat from the reactivation exhaust, leading to further cost reductions. Heating the output air often has the advantage of removing the need for an after-cooling coil and it further reduces relative humidity.
Adequate dehumidification can lead to substantial savings, as maintenance needs resulting from corrosion are reduced. The right dehumidifier will efficiently solve the problem and keep energy and installation costs within reasonable limits. A unit with a high capacity, able to handle humidity levels throughout the year, will be required.
