Dehumidification entails the removal of ambient air moisture. Air moisture can have various negative effects on people as well as products. Human comfort and the body’s natural temperature controls are not well served by excessively humid conditions, which also promote the growth of bacteria and mould and create an unhygienic environment. Materials can be damaged by absorbing moisture and degrade as a result of mould or chemical processes such as corrosion or other forms of oxidation.

There are two commonly used kinds of dehumidifier products: desiccant dehumidifiers and refrigerant dehumidifiers. In general, refrigerant humidifiers are best suited to hot conditions (above 20 °C), while desiccant humidifiers are better for cold conditions (below 20 °C).
